  • To our son's daycare teachers - an open letter of thanks

    It is an emotional day.

Our son turns three today and leaves his daycare where he has been since 12 weeks old.

How do I say thank you to the incredible loving teachers who have looked after our baby for the last three years?

With tears in my eyes and a heavy, yet warm heart I write an open letter of thanks.

    .

    Thank You

  • Tasty Teething Pops

Our youngest is teething like crazy right now, poor wee thing has a mouthful of teeth coming through. Giving your baby something cool to bite on can relieve the pressure and ease the pain - my teething pops are both cool and nutritious..not too mention great for swollen gums to chomp on!

These teething pops are super easy to make (I literally made them during 5pm madness) and you can also mix and...
  • Creamy Peanut Butter Smoothie

We are on a bit of a smoothie buzz right now...as Master-Nearly-3 loves them!!

This is a delicious smoothie, using some of my favourite ingredients; avocado and peanut butter! Both of which makes the smoothie really creamy and adds some good fats and protein. A super easy snack, great for before or after some activity and is also a great breakfast option! You can read just why I love avocado so...
  • PhD Watch - Time Minus 2 Months

Sometimes it is not until the storm passes that you look back and reflect on what you have come through and how far you have come.

This last month I have met with a huge road block in my PhD journey. It felt like I was hit from all angles. I had set backs with my writing, sick...

  • The 5 Stages of Fatigue I Never Knew Before Motherhood

Before I had children I knew two stages of tiredness: tired and not tired. Two children later, I now know I was missing out on the real fatigue party. Note: the ‘not tired’ stage is yet to feature again.

    1. The Warm Up

Mostly commonly encountered during pregnancy (for the first time). You get hit with overwhelming exhaustion. Growing a human is very hard work. Remedy = sleeping whenever you like,...
  • Chocolate Cake Vs Your Sanity?...I get it....I totally get it!

    That moment.

That moment when you actually do not know if you can actually do it.

If you can get through the next minute, no next second and be the mum you are meant to be.

That moment when the slight bit of fear grips your heart and your brain goes into overdrive.

I had it A LOT with our first son, less so with our second but last weekend I did and it reminded me that sometimes despite my best...

  • Your Best Is Enough!

For weeks now, hubby and I have felt like we have been fighting to keep our heads above the water. We are battling on all fronts – we both have full time jobs, run two businesses and have my Doctoral thesis thrown in there for good measure. Least not forgetting our most important job as parents.

We have felt the tug of war for our time and our energy at times exhausting. The work/life balance well...
  • PhD Watch - Time Minus 3 Months

For those new to joining me on my PhD journey, I now have 3 months left until my Doctorate thesis submission deadline (November 30th).

It’s been a tough month. Trying to create time to write when there is no time. Needing to fine tune my level of work output. I have been my own worst enemy. Huge self doubt has plagued me every day often to the point when even if I have managed to squeeze in time...

  • Apple and Walnut Muffins

I have a bit of a soft spot for muffins. They can be one of easiest homemade snacks, which come in a perfect portion - for us mums who are often eating on the run, needing breastfeeding snacks or have little mouths to feed, muffins can be genius!

With some simple switches I have created a healthier, yet still tasty version (toddler approved) of a traditional Edmonds fruit muffin recipe:

  • PhD Watch - Time Minus 4 Months (...nearly 3 months)

For those new to joining me on my PhD journey, I now have 4…correction nearly 3 months left until my Doctorate thesis submission deadline (November 30th). I found out I was (miraculously) pregnant 8 weeks into my PhD and if you had told me then (nearly 4 years ago) that I would be here, two children later in the count down to the end I would not have believed you.

    Belief….ah yes believing in...

  • Kids Green Smoothie

A very simple healthy smoothie perfect for kids which has some great green stuff in it, including broccoli and avocado. The banana and berries provide natural sweetness, plus berries contain great antioxidants for little immune systems. Best of all this has passed the taste test of little man, in fact we made this two days in a row as he loved it so much (and being able to work the blender!).
