Christmas Cheese and 'Jam' Puffs
November is officially gone and we are staring down another Christmas season. Your Christmas may look a bit different this year, you may be missing someone around the table, or you might have one more with you than last year, you might choose to celebrate your Christmas with your chosen family, or you might only have your very immediate family. Regardless of how you celebrate your Christmas this year there is one place in the house that never fails to bring people together...the kitchen. Over the next few weeks I will be sharing some of my favourite Christmas recipes, in typical Julie style, focused on being easy, quick and good for the whole family.
This one is another yummy and easy recipe using our Dr Julie's Kitchen fruit spread. I have titled it a 'jam' puff because let's be honest cheese and fruit spread puff is a mouthful. With just a few ingredients this is a delicious and exciting snack everyone can enjoy!
2 sheets puff pastry
1/4 cup DJK fruit spread
1 round of camembert
A few sprigs of thyme
2 tbs chopped walnuts
1 small egg (beaten)
Poppy seeds for sprinkling (optional)
Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
Line a baking tray with non-stick baking paper. Cut the puff pastry sheets into even squares (I got 9 from each sheet) and and place on the lined tray. Place a slice of camenbert diagonally in the corner of each square, leaving a small gap to press the sides together. On top of the cheese add a small teaspoon of fruit spread and top with the walnut and thyme.
Brush pastry borders of each rectangle with a little beaten egg, then fold square diagonally to make a triangle shape and press the borders with a fork to seal.
Brush a thin layer of the beaten egg on top and sprinkle over poppy seeds place in oven and cook for 20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
